From One Vision
In 1973, James R. Trueman opened the doors to the first Red Roof Inn in Columbus, Ohio. Room rates were just $8.50 a night. Since then, Red Roof Inns have opened across North America but the original vision has remained. To provide clean, comfortable rooms and a friendly, attentive staff while charging less for it. In other words, good, honest value.
Trueman was a Columbus builder and contractor with a passion for driving race cars in his spare time. He believed, like many of our guests, in simplicity and economy without giving up quality. As Red Roof Inns expanded, Trueman was dedicated to providing a winning stay for all guests. He took pride in being consistent, ensuring the quality was the same from coast to coast. Soon Red Roof became known as “the smart choice” for travelers. By 1986, Red Roof grew to 155 motels. And Trueman was on his way to becoming an Indy 500 winning team owner.
Today, Red Roof has approximately 350 inns in 38 states, employs over 4,500 people and serves millions of guests each year.
